HALF-LIFE
Having primarily focused on band-related projects (The Dickies, Buffalo Springfield Again, The Skin Trade and The Cherry Bluestorms), Glen Laughlin nevertheless clocked up separate careers as a singer/ songwriter and producer/ engineer. In addition, he contributed to Harvey and Ken Kubernik’s definitive book about Jimi Hendrix.
While working with famed producer Earle Mankey on what was intended to be his debut solo album, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident that severely crushed his fingering hand. Despite being informed very definitively by his doctors that he would never play guitar again, six months later he was playing bass and lead singing in The Skin Trade. Six months after that he returned to touring and recording with The Dickies. Meanwhile, he finished his solo album, now an E.P., with The Skin Trade and recorded and toured with them. He also continued to record with help from a host of phenomenally talented collaborators.
Following The Dickies’ chequered Idjit Savant tour, Laughlin purchased the “B” room of the studio where much of Idjit was recorded and opened his own studio, Roundhouse Recording. The unreleased recordings made at Mankey’s Psychedelic Shack, Stagg St. Studios, Tiny Lights and Promise Productions could now be mixed at Roundhouse. One song was left unfinished and the brilliant Marc Mann came to the rescue, allowing Half-Life to be released for your appraisal. He most heartily hopes that you will enjoy the songs as much as he has writing and recording them.
