We were contacted by a French Radio DJ and we were asked to give a statement of purpose for his listeners. We thought you might be interested in our reply.
I think that much of our aesthetic sensibility is obviously rooted in the 1960s. The excitement of so many creative endeavours exploding at the same time left a lasting impression. But we are not interested in aping the style of the era and missing the spirit. We have been influenced by other music and arts and more of that will likely come to the surface as the band progresses. We would hate to propagate the style of the 1960s without bringing something new and of ourselves to the table. Having said that, our second album, Bad Penny Opera, is a tribute to those early influences, hopefully without the slavishly imitative methods favoured by some artists. If we can keep a toe in the magic water while reaching beyond, we’ll be happy.
