Happy Blue Year, Bluestorms Friends and Fans!

I’ll have to dispense with my usual, “never mind-about-last-year-let’s-hope-for-a-better-one” New Year’s tradition and admit that 2013 was a pretty great year.  True, the Bluestorms didn’t make it back to England in 2013, but they did release a great sophomore album that garnered praise and respect from critics, peers and fans alike.  They performed the full Bad Penny Opera with narration from famed actor Michael McShane and keyboards by the very talented Bobby Victor.  They have written or arranged and partially recorded no less than 15 new tracks.  Roundhouse Recording began the process of a significant upgrade.  The band continued to markedly improve as a live performing entity and they garnered new fans and friends.  Along those lines, Ted Russell Kamp returned as sometime live bassist along with stalwart Steve Giles.

The new year is starting off with a bang!  First off, a teaser promotional gig January 4 at Carvin Guitars Hollywood.  Glen and Mark will be playing with The Furys January 11 at Molly Malone’s.  January 14 The Bluestorms pay tribute to famed producer Earle Mankey at The Troubadour in a show benefitting A Dog’s Life rescue.  The Bluestorms will be featured with a veritable who’s who of local talent including a rare reunion of seminal L.A. band The Pop, with whom Glen will be playing guitar!  January 19 finds The Bluestorms in Fresno for the Food Not Bombs benefit.  We’re extremely excited about their first show at Silverlake Lounge February 7.  Following that is their second trip to Arizona.  They’ll be playing a special show with Arizona indie faves Fairy Bones February 21.  March 7 they play Huntington Beach’s Fitzgerald’s for their second appearance at the annual Pop Garden Radio Road Show.  For times and locations check the Bluestorms’ website:  www.thecherrybluestorms.com.  Let’s hope they leave some time to get that next album completed!  Incidentally, if you know some people in the Fresno and Phoenix area, please tell them about The Cherry Bluestorms.

The band and your trusty chronicler Winston wish you and yours a very happy 2014.  We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you most heartily for your support.

Yours truly,

Winston
