February 2019 News
February is the month of love, and we have been feeling it here at Bluestorms HQ! January was a month of lots of radio activity! Over the last month 68 stations worldwide (that we know of) added “Roy Wood” from Whirligig! and “As Above So Below” from Bad Penny Opera to their rotation! It’s also been exciting in that we have been consistently placing on many of their weekly charts. “Seven League Boots” from Whirligig! has also continued its airplay run, most notably placing every week since October 29 on The Secret Weapon Show’s Radio Indie Alliance chart. It’s heartening to see our latest project get so much positive feedback.
On the subject of positive feedback, for those who haven’t heard, we got the good news towards the beginning of January that Whirligig! was ranked #4 by L.A. Weekly on their list of the top ten local indie rock albums of 2018! Check out the article here.
Last weekend we had the good fortune of attending the NAMM Show as guests of Laney Amplification. Just a few of the highlights included saying hello to our friend Simon at Laney, who provided us with their wonderful amps on our 2017 UK tour, seeing the latest gear from some of our favorite companies like Rickenbacker and Vox, and a lovely exchange with Glen’s former Dickies bandmate Steven Fryette of Fryette Amplification. Stevie recently revived the classic Sound City marque to reissue the amps of their glory period in 1967/1968. Those amps were made famous by none other than The Who and The Jimi Hendrix Experience!
Now that our move is completed and we are fairly settled, we are excited to be getting back into the studio imminently to begin work on new music, and anticipate that we will be releasing new material before the end of the year.
Speaking of the month of love and new material, enjoy this live video of an aptly titled Glen track that will finally see release as part of an upcoming solo album. Happy Valentine’s Day!
